3D printed 'Knight with Axe'
A 3d modelling and printing challenge. The prototype is made in PLA with stainless steel bearing balls 10mm. The figure is posable.
Hello world.
The initial steps that leaded to the creation of this figure was a medieval stamping stel of my oldest son. Among the stamps was a very nice little warrior with a two handed axe. I initially made a kinetic figure that was drawn from this stamp. I used 1.5mm wood that I had left form the violin shoulder rest.
I liked the figure so much that I decided to model it in Blender in 3d.
Among the challenges were getting a nice and a bit cute cartoony look as well as getting the ball joints to snap fit over the stainless steel balls. I noticed some joints would be a bit tight , while others too loose. I'm considering redesigning the joint parts to improve the connection.
I thought the cape and plume would look nice in another color, so I used a synthetic dye. This involves almost boiling water with added pigment and the holding the part in the hot water.
With kind regards,
Jairo
